Arpita Sarkar (aka Sarkar) hails from Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. She earned her M.Tech (Integrated) degree in Biotechnology from D.Y. Patil University, School of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Navi Mumbai. She joined the Guptasarma lab in August 2017 and is currently in the last leg of her PhD journey. Her research focuses on two main areas: a) unraveling the mechanistic aspects of a hyperthermophile enzyme that serves dual functions as an amylase and a 4-alpha-glucanotransferase, and b) exploring the structure-function relationship of an enzyme called aminopeptidase. Apart from her academic pursuits, Sarkar is trained in the Indian classical dance form Bharatnatyam, and finds joy in both dancing and reading books in her leisure hours.
